My husband agreed to deal with them from there on, because I was infuriated with how they treated me and my mother. We ordered a simple "naked" cake with tiers of yellow and chocolate and a vanilla buttercream to hold the layers together, with fruit as the decoration. It was lovely... And prepared a day early because the woman taking my husband's order said they could do a Sunday wedding but they're closed that day, so it was prepared Saturday. We were frantically trying to make room in our fridge for a 3-later cake when the owner called to say she'd make everything right, since the error was on their end.
Then this week comes, and I tell my friend who's getting married about our wedding cake. To see if she'd like to consider Goll's, I called the bakery on Thursday to ask if they'd bake a dozen cupcakes for Saturday pick-up, under my name and phone number.
Well, my husband was just there to pick them up, and there's not a damn order in sight with my name on it. So, he just takes whatever cupcakes are available and got the hell out of Dodge--also because he didn't want to be stuck standing there when I called to ask where my order was. Or would have, if someone had answered the phone--or even set up their voicemail system.
Their cakes are definitely first rate, but the trouble we've had coordinating with them for orders is just beyond the pale.
Never gotten a bad item from them. Their donuts are the only ones my son will eat entirely. Have to get there early if you want a selection to choose from. Staff aren't very friendly unless you're elderly, whom the one woman seems to spend an awfully long time talking to. Not saying it's bad to chit chat but when you have people lined out the door...it's not exactly smart.
Always love the baked goods here. Haven't had anything bad yet.
Love their Cakes! I always order one for every occasion.
Cons: customer service (when an owner isn't involved), order taking, and overall communication is absolutely abysmal. I can't recommend them for any catering or pre-arranged baking needs. Go stand in line in the morning to take what you can get.
Beautiful work just love the woman who makes the cakes...does a wonderful job thumbs up!!!!
My husband grew up eating from their bakery and has fond memories. So, when preparing for our wedding, we considered them. I entered the shop with my mother and sister one afternoon, and the woman at the counter ignored us for ten minutes to chit chat with another customer. When we asked for catering/wedding cake information, she was very curt and generally unwelcoming. Apparently, we were asking for information too soon, and were basically dismissed from the shop. (This is sometime in 2014-early 2015 for an October 2015 wedding.)
That cake--despite being a day old--was delicious and moist. Best wedding cake I've ever had, honestly.
So pros: local institution that makes awesome baked goods fresh every day.
My husband ordered a small cake for our anniversary in 2016; that, too, was tasty and went off without a hitch.
